As a little girl, Colleen Hauk watched her dad come home from the oil refineries in Long Beach, covered in grit, smelling of oil, and working tirelessly at a place she proudly told her friends about. Years later, the word “refinery” resurfaced with new meaning: a place where something already valuable becomes even more powerful.
