Doing More Yet Achieving Less?

Research has shown that there’s been an increase in employee workload by about 31%. Yet we’re also finding that the average work week, about 30% of it is made up of unnecessary tasks – things that don’t have a high impact. So we’re doing more, achieving less. Wow! This is a recipe for so many things to go wrong, for both the individual employee and for the organization.

On the employee front, we know that when employees are tasked with doing more yet they don’t see a result, they don’t feel like it’s a contribution, that they’re getting that win on the other side. That combination, that is a recipe for burnout. Now, if you thought burnout went away, it did not.

Burnout was here before and it’s here now.

And when employees are feeling like they are in this hamster wheel, they’re doing more but they can’t see what it’s resulting in, they eventually just completely burn out. Then when you throw on top of that, that a lot of their work, or at least about a third of it, is unnecessary, how are they feeling? A lot of that time is wasted because there are not systems and processes in place, and there’s a lack of clear communication.

So what is this costing organizations? Roughly $15,000 per employee. We need to come together, figure out, combined as a collaborative group, how do we start to streamline systems and processes? How do we streamline communication?

It’s a little “chicken or the egg” – if we can get the communication piece dialed in so that we break down some of the silos across departments, across teams and functions, to really streamline what these processes are – knowing where to go to find an answer, what platform this is saved on, where should I go and do this research, or communicate these tasks?

We need to come together as a group, and leaders, you are in charge!

You’re at the helm of this, to start thinking about how you are communicating internally, in order to make sure that we’re not doing unnecessary work, unnecessary research, unnecessary emails or searching, or wasting our time. That not only leads to a cost for your organization, but it leads to a direct impact of the employee, where you’re at risk of losing some of your high talent.

That’s what I’m here to help you do, to flip that intention and turn it into an actual outcome for results!
