Just last night, I was sharing with my husband Matt how I can’t believe we are in the final days of March already! March is a very special month; it is Women’s History Month. And on March 8th, we celebrated International Women’s Day and this year’s theme was #ChooseToChallenge, so I’m going to challenge you to carry that theme beyond March and through the rest of 2021.
Now look, I recognize that there are very big issues at hand; some issues that seem so large, that we almost feel powerless. We look at them and say, “Look, we need legislative change. We need somebody at the C level in our organization to take a stance.” I recognize that, but that’s not the fight I’m fighting today. The fight I’m fighting for is for you – what you could do within your own circumstances. Wherever that is, whether that’s something public-facing, or even internally or private for you.
Now, it doesn’t have to be massive, it doesn’t have to be a giant, major overhaul. It could be something so small, the tiniest of tiny things. But those small things starting one right after the other, those small things are the ones that create the greatest impact over time. So take a look around, what is that one small thing today that you could #ChooseToChallenge?
Is it something that you are seeing, you’re hearing, you’re witnessing in some capacity? Whether that’s through personal friendships, acquaintances, or professionally among colleagues, co-workers, or even management. What is that thing that you are saying, “This isn’t right, I have control to at least do something today.” What is that thing that you are going to #ChooseToChallenge?
And you know what? You may not know what that is right now. But the awareness, keeping this at the top of our mind to #ChooseToChallenge, will help you so when you do witness something, you can say, “What’s the one small thing I could do that may not feel like it’s going to make that big of a difference, but it absolutely will?” Keep an open mind, keep this #ChooseToChallenge with you through the remainder of the year. We are here together to fight for whatever change needs to happen, for the betterment of everyone.
